 What meanings are the audience encouraged to take about the two main characters from the opening of the film?


The audience is encouraged not to judge young adults just because f the way they act and dress as they do not know what the kid could be going through.


→ How does the end of the film emphasise de Saussure’s belief that signs are polysemic – open to interpretation or more than one meaning?


The end of the movie suggests to us that being able to speak doesn't always mean that people understand the struggles you're going through.

the phenomenon of media texts being interpreted in multiple, and sometimes contradictory ways by their audiences.

anything in culture can be a sign and can send a specific message depending on how people view it and interpret it.

 How does the writer suggest Russian Doll (Netflix) uses narrative codes?


 The story that fits within the story that fits within the story


 Find three examples for each: icon, index and symbol. Provide images or links. 


→ ICON: photograph, painting , poster


→ INDEX: using an image of smoke to indicate fireusing water to create rain, using steam to make it look hot and humid.


→ SYMBOL: traffic signs, emojis, and emoticons used in electronic communication


→ Why are icons and indexes so important in media texts?


they allow producers to communicate with their audience


→ Why might global brands try and avoid symbols in their advertising and marketing?


they might encounter some language barriers or have horrible campaigning skills causing them to lose out on consumers.


→  Find an example of a media text (e.g. advert) that successfully uses icons or indexes to create a message that can be easily understood across the world.


This picture clearly brands to consumers that it has multiple different shades of foundation and concealer available for everyone and this is done by the use of symbols and indexes'.
